I wont forget the day before.
I have been swimming all the day in Miami Beach, relaxing under the sunshine but over the gold coloured sands, enjoying the beach parties on Ocean Drive. When the sun went down and it went down very late, we decided to move the car to Fort Lauderdale, a port 40 kilometers north where the Bahamas Cruise will leave very early next day.
We found the port, it was very smart that we went there but we couldnt find any single empty room to stay next to port for the night! After a dozen trials, we decided to sleep in the car next to a hotel. At 3 o'clock, I do remember we woke up and realised that the watches of the car, our mobiles and arm watches are all showing different time! We tried to figure out but couldnt and went on sleeping.
We woke up at 6.00 AM, the sun was coming up shiny. It was a perfect day to take an all-inclusive cruise in Caribbean Sea. We had our breakfast and went into port garage to park our car. That was when we saw a party cruise with the exact same name of ours was leaving the port. We were surprised but didnt figure out what was going on until we packed our stuff and arrive to the custom office.
-The ship was gone! There is nothing that they could do...
+But how come? We arrived on time. The ship supposed to leave at 8AM.
-No, we didnt. Last night at 3AM summer time started and America switched one hour forth. ITS 8AM NOW.
+OMG!
Yes, the whole continent shifted a hour forward when we were sleeping and we were not expecting that to happen. And this once-in-a-year adjustment happened on the day I was supposed to take a ferry in Caribbean. The thing is, we were planned to return the car in the airport and leave to NY the next day...
They say, the choices you make, not the chances you take, determine your destiny. I chose to go to Bahamas and I should have bear the consequences. After the first shock, we found ourselves in the airport, delaying the flight tickets, extending the car rental. I spent the rest of the day laughing what had happened and having a sun bath and swimming in South Beach.
And the sun sets again. Move to the car. Find a dinner. Sit and eat and talk. Enjoy the bars in the evening. See the Hollywood Blvd at night. Move to the port area. Hotels are full. Be prepared to sleep in the car. Its OK. We will be waking up by 6AM. Be sure that nobody changes the time. Wake up. The sun is shining. Eat something. Go to port. See the ship is there. Park the car. Go to custom office.
Exit USA. Enter to the ship. Yes, we are sailing to Bahamas, finally.
The ship is happened to be a party cruise:) It was full of students moving to Bahamas for the spring break. Open buffet. All you can eat. Unlimited alcohol. Dancing with unbearably loud music. One way is 4 hours. Everyone ended up being drunk and felt asleep happy under the sun on board. Others were either in Casino or at cinema hall watching those ridiculus hollywood movies about couples moving an island on the verge of a divorce and fall in love at the end. Fair deal for a cruise trip.
I saw the island on board. The water became more colourful as we approach. The sand was truely golden. And the plants were like in those movies, so tropic.
We threw ourselves out. We took the first cab we found. Drive us to the most beatiful beach over here. The traffic flows on the left, the cars are imported from US so the wheel is on the left as well. The people are poor but not like in africe and happy as they seem. Tourism is the only source of income. The water has so unique colors. Only an ocean can have these colors. But not as transparent as mediterrean. And the sand... I havent see such small and shiney and comfortable sand in my life. Not even in Miami.
