Nurmberg, the christmasmarkt

We arrived to Nurmberg on 18th December evening, the sun was already set. It took more than 450 kilometers and 4.5 hours of drive through the snow covered autobahns for us to reach there. We needed to stop quite frequently on the way since the car was always signalling the temperature is something below minus 15 degrees celcius, however the temperature felt was quite lower than that, especially when we were moving. Front glass was freezing even without using water so we needed to stop to unfreeze it. The most surprising incident was to witness that antifreeze we bought, was frozen after using it, one or two times. Probably our car was not manufactured to be driven at these conditions.

When we used the exit to Nurmberg citycenter or zentrum, parked the car in the most lightened car park and got out of it, i had a better and more realistic sense of how could it get cooler! The city was in light but we understood shortly that we werent well-prepared to enjoy it. The magic of the city was, it was the very first christmas markt in europe since a mother who has lost her kid started the whole tradition. At least we heard so. there was these angel wings, everwhere. The city was lovely and lively, even under that weather.
We immediately decided to eat some bratwurst and gluhwein in order to increase the body temperature, not just because we were hungry:) We decided to move on a higher area so we could able to shoot the christmasmarkt from high above. While travelling around, we realised that the christmasmarkt is huge, especially in comparison to city size. As we step higher we saw the walls on a top of a hill and realised that there is a castle! YESS!

The tour to up on the hill made our blood warm again. But no for so long! The hill was windy as expected and was serving us the best view of the city! Got a couple of more photos. Followed a different route down the hill, in the brick made tunnels, found ourselves out of the city walls. Tried to find the main entrance instead of walking the same roads back and discovered the city by this way. Snow was going on so far. The city was already covered with it. Found the heart of the old city where there was no christmas markt. Our feet was frozen. So we had to warm up the body right! Down the christmas markt again to heat it. This time some sugar stuff.

In between, we saw the channels, where the top of the water was covered with a thick ice layer. Either the water was smoking or the wind was blowing someone else's smoke through the channels but it was a worth to see picture how strange motives was drown on the frozen water.

We still needed to walk back to the car. I remember shouting laudly because of pain when i tried to undress and handle the wheel: here comes the first but not last frostbite!
